There is a need to recalibrate the new entrants from a traditional to a more modernized skill set to thrive in an ever-changing landscape. However, several studies have found an instructional misalignment in the competencies between academic training and industry expectations. Therefore, the researchers aimed to identify the significant gaps in competencies where notable mismatches between academic training and industry expectations exist. The different respondent groups, namely immediate supervisors, practitioners, educators, and graduate students in Cebu City were surveyed online through a multistage sampling technique. The study used a non-parametric approach to test the significant difference between the two medians. On hypothesis testing of the significant differences in the overall perceptions of the two groups of respondents - the academe and the industry, the Mann-Whitney U test was utilized. Contrary to most studies, the findings revealed an overperformance which indicates that the students acquired academic training and delivered skills that exceeded the industry’s expectations and actual demonstrations exemplifying exceptional performance as reported in the Performance gap.
